Apple Keynote

This guide covers Keynote for Mac and follows Apple's current Keynote User Guide. Keynote's background settings take pictures, so a still goes in the slide background and a loop goes on the slide itself, behind your text.

Steps

   Match the slide size to your screen

   In the Document sidebar, open the pop-up menu below Slide Size and pick a size, or choose Custom Slide Size and enter your screen's width and height. Download the BeforePreach file in the same shape.

   Use a still as the background

   Select the slides in the slide navigator and click Format. In the Background controls, choose Standard, open the pop-up menu and choose Image Fill. Click Replace, then Choose File, and pick the JPG. In the pop-up menu above Replace, choose Scale to Fill so the picture covers the slide.

   Add the loop to the slide

   Drag the MP4 from Finder onto the slide, or use the Insert Media button in the toolbar. Drag the corners until the video covers the whole slide.

   Move it behind the text

   With the video selected, open the Arrange tab in the Format sidebar and click Back. Your lyrics or title now sit on top.

   Start, loop and mute it

   In the Format sidebar, open the Movie tab. Deselect Start movie on click so it plays as soon as the slide appears, and choose Loop from the Repeat pop-up menu. BeforePreach loops are silent. To be sure, drag the volume slider all the way down.

   Keep it moving across lyric slides

   Put the same video on each lyric slide and select Play movie across slides. The loop then carries on as you advance instead of starting again on every slide.

   Play the countdown

   Give the countdown its own slide, add the countdown MP4 and make it fill the slide. Deselect Start movie on click and make sure Repeat is not set to Loop, so it stops at zero. Five minutes before the service, play the presentation from that slide.

Tips

• In Keynote, Settings, General, turn on Copy audio and movies into document, so the videos travel with the file to the church computer.
• Choose text-safe loops behind lyrics so the words stay clear.
• The 1080p file is enough for most projectors and keeps the Keynote file smaller.
